Welcome to Pender Island!

A place where visitors can experience first-hand the wonders of BC’s beautiful wilderness, spend time shaking off the dreary urban monotony of the mainland and enjoy an island escape to suit all activity levels!
Pender Island – a home away from home.

Getting To Pender

One of the most easy to reach of the Gulf Islands, Pender Island can be accessed most directly by air or by sea. Float planes run twice daily from Vancouver and Victoria and take approximately 30 minutes. While BC Ferries offers service to Otter Bay on the North Island all year round. Visitors can easily arrive by car, bicycle or foot via the Ferries and enjoy a scenic tour of the many neighbouring islands on the way!

Once You’ve Arrived

Dubbed the ‘friendly islands,’ – a name not taken lightly by the locals! – Pender Island offers visitors that special brand of island hospitality. While there is no “public transit” per se, visitors are always able to stop at one of the many main ‘car stops’ and get a free ride from a local! Most often, they will inform you of the Island’s goings-on and the best places to stay or dine. You might even be invited over for some delicious local island fare!

What to Do?

Pender Island is made up of two separate islands – North and South Pender – joined by a single-lane bridge. Both islands offer many miles of hiking trails and publicly-accessible provincial park land to explore; and most will lead you to stunning scenic vistas. Seals, otters and deer are also friendly residents that may pop out to say hi!

If hiking is not your thing, then why not try a day at the beach? Pender has over thirty beach accesses, which make their way right to the water’s edge. There is a beach here for everyone; bring a picnic and spend the day – you might even catch a glimpse of BC’s resident orca pods!

Water activities are one of the most exciting ways to appreciate the Island’s coastline: kayaking, boating and fishing excursions occur throughout the summer months and offer a unique way to view the island.

Or why not try your hand at a round of golf? – Pender Island offers two challenging courses; one for regular golf and one for disc golf. Improve your swing at Pender Island Golf Club or try getting a whole in one through the trees! at our award-winning course near Magic Lake.

You won’t want miss the Saturday Farmers Market at the Community Hall to stock up delicious fresh produce and baked goods. Tour artisan’ stalls to find a unique souvenir or take a drive around the island and you’ll find some interesting road side farm stands or local galleries to peruse.

Cap the day off at Pender Island’s Sea Star winery for an award-winning vintage or grab a pint and a burger and partake in some lively conversation at the Port Browning pub.
